The Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW) is a patriotic, non-partisan organization which holds that it is nobler to serve than to be served. It was founded in 1919 by Army, Navy, and Marine Corps officers as a way to continue the fellowship and friendship gained during their military service. The Order provides an opportunity for all active, retired, and former officers of the Armed Services to unite in a program that promotes good citizenship, patriotism, youth development, service to your country, a strong national security, the cultivation of military, naval and air science, and the preservation of our military heritage. The Order, through its Chapters, supports and conducts active programs that provide youth leadership conferences and seminars. It supports the recognition of the achievements of Boy and Girl Scouts, and recognizes and honors the accomplishments of ROTC and JROTC cadets. It promotes the virtues of law and order, organizes and conducts patriotic ceremonies such as Massing of the Colors, and fosters the establishment of memorials that recognize military service.
The Columbia (SC) Chapter of the Military Order of World Wars is one of 133 active chapters of the National Organization. The Chapter was originally founded in 1927 as “The Richland Chapter” of the Military Order of the World Wars, it was rechartered as the “Columbia Chapter” on 20 August, 1934. Since that time it has maintained its name, and its active status.
Our mission is to bring to all eligible officers in Columbia, and the surrounding Midlands area, an organization of interested persons who will carry out the ideals of the precepts contained in the Preamble to the Constitution of the Order.
